I began my professional career in Kendall Square, early 70’s, where, save for the presence of the Institute and the F&T Diner, it was a place for townies, not biochemists, to go torch their car and collect insurance. After 40 years of meeting a weekly payroll as the founding CEO or CSO of technology start-ups, I left during the ascension of Kendall Square to its pre-eminent perch, said “goodbye to all that.”
January 1, 2014, I moved to Pumpkin Cove in New Harbor and last year migrated to the back shore in Round Pond. A tinkerer at heart, I have traded test tubes for nuts, bolts and presentation-grade woods now in the guise of an accomplished, but still amateur, gunsmith restoring or replicating 18th century flintlock muskets and pistols. When not in the workshop, and during the gardening season, I tend to my flowers and play with my Cairns. In all, memories of the Examiner Club from 1983 to 2013, remain fond ones, especially my 9 years as Secretary and a couple as Treasurer. Indeed, “we shall not cease from exploration….”
