Christopher Hasting
Editor-in-Chief and Executive Producer, WORLD Channel
For more than 20 years, Chris Hastings has worked alongside many talented team members and filmmakers to create award-winning content for public media. From the children's live-action series ZOOM, to short-form digital stories from the WGBH Lab, he has been instrumental in producing great work that makes an impact.
Currently, Chris serves as Executive Producer and Editorial Manager for GBH’s WORLD Channel, where he leads curation and development of this public media documentary platform. WORLD is the home of multiple award-winning documentary series including America ReFramed, Local, USA, and Doc World, series that he co-created with a mission to amplify stories and voices from traditionally marginalized communities for public media.
Chris is passionate about empowering people to tell their own stories through traditional as well as non-traditional methods. He has earned a reputation as an empathetic listener and an influential content leader who is committed to understanding and staying abreast of current trends, people, and concepts within American society.
His early interest in film production led him to become a founding team member in the development and production of Black Entertainment Television’s award-winning BET Tonight with Tavis Smiley. His documentary work has been featured at conferences and festivals around the globe and has generated numerous industry awards such as the Peabody Award, du-Pont Columbia Award, News and Documentary Emmy Award, and International Documentary Association Award.
Chris frequently serves as a content reader, reviewer, and adviser on various open calls for the National Multicultural Alliance (Black Public Media, Center for Asian American Media, Pacific Islanders in Communications, National Association of Latino Independent Producers, and Vision Maker Media), and for PBS and other organizations connected to documentary production, acquisitions and distribution around the world. He is a proud alumnus of The Partnership Inc., a Boston-based leadership incubator for executives of color from across the country, and is also a 2016 JustFilm Rockwood documentary leadership Fellow.
